A Quick, Convenient Fix for Broken, Cracked & Stained Teeth

Dental bonding is an expedited treatment using a composite resin mold. Because the mold does not require impressions or custom fabrication from a dental lab, this cosmetic dentistry treatment can be completed in a single day. At Springfield Dental Group, we typically recommend this treatment to patients who have chipped and/or discolored teeth, though we may also suggest it to individuals with noticeable gaps or spaces between their teeth to make their smile more uniform. We may recommend alternative treatments for more severe damage.

What Does the Dental Bonding Process Look Like?

We’ll get things started with a one-on-one consultation to determine whether your current oral health and cosmetic goals make you a good candidate for dental bonding. If we determine that you are, we go directly into preparation, thoroughly cleaning the area that will receive the bonding. Sedatives and anesthesia are generally unnecessary unless the treatment is meant to correct a decayed tooth.

The next step is to create the composite resin and match the color of it to your teeth so it the bond blends in seamlessly. The dentist will then etch the surface of the tooth to be treated, apply a light conditioner and set the bonding material so it can be molded into its natural shape. We’ll use an ultraviolet light to speed up the drying process.

The whole process, from start to finish, runs 30-60 minutes, depending on how many teeth need to be treated. We recommend patients not eat or drink anything – coffee, tea, wine, beets, etc. – that might stain the bonding material for up to 48 hours after the resin is set.
